Computer Assisted 3 D Craniofacial Reconstruction

چکیده
This thesis describes a methodology for forensic craniofacial reconstruction, de ned as the reproduction a subject's facial appearance from the skull and mandible for the purposes of identi cation. The focus of this work is on reproducing three dimensional facial shape from the shape of the skull and mandible of a subject. This task can be broken into two parts. First, a technique for determining soft tissue depth at any point on the skull and mandible surface is presented. Second, two complementary methods of producing three dimensional facial shape are presented: a method which generates a surface using the skull and mandible as a skeleton of an implicit surface and a method which produces a hierarchical B-spline surface t to facial surface locations. Surface material properties and facial features can then be added and modi ed to these models before being rendered and distributed. Results of these processes are presented.

The complex three-dimensional relationships in congenital craniofacial reconstruction uniquely lend themselves to the ability to accurately plan and model the result provided by computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM). The goal of this study was to illustrate indications where CAD/CAM would be helpful in the treatment of congenital craniofacial anomalies reconstruction and to discuss ...
متن کاملStress Analysis of the Human Ligamentous Lumber Spine-From Computer-Assisted Tomography to Finite Element Analysis
Detailed investigation on biomechanics of a complex structure such as the human lumbar spine requires the use of advanced computer-based technique for both the geometrical reconstruction and the stress analysis. In the present study, the computer-assisted tomography (CAT) and finite element method (FEM) are merged to perform detailed three dimensional nonlinear analysis of the human ligamentous...
متن کاملComputer assisted osteotomy design for autografts in craniofacial reconstructive surgery
For reconstruction of some craniofacial defects which may be caused by trauma, removal of cancer, or due to congenital absence, the procedure of bone grafting is necessary. In this paper we propose a method to identify an optimal donor site for autologous grafts. It is done by performing an optimization of appropriate surface based and voxel based similarity measures between donor region and a ...

The reconstruction of facial soft tissue is an essential processing phase in the fields of forensics, anthropology as well as maxillofacial surgery. In the first two areas the working subject is a skull find of a deceased where the soft tissue needs to be reconstructed. In forensics, this work helps to identify skeletons from open cases of death. In anthropology, the comparison of facial featur...
